Wine Club: Casa Brecceto

I was playing around with a lot of ideas for this month’s wine club…BBQ wines, Independent wines (no SO2), Fizz Fest. etc. All of these themes kept bringing me back to the same winemaker; Casa Brecceto. I had worked with two of the wines previously but in super small quantities so I hadn’t really experienced why they were so intriguing with just those two wines.

I went down to Boston in March for the Selectio Naturel Portfolio Tasting and I didn’t get to the Casa Brecceto tables until the end but they were surprising to say the least. And I was hooked…

Casa Brecceto is a project almost two decades in the making. Three friends spent the greater part of their partnership exploring the Campanian countryside to try and understand just what the potential was for making wine in the area. Focusing their attention on the native grape varieties from often abandoned and extremely secluded vineyard, they produced ‘garagist’ style wines in tiny quantities that often didn’t reach further than friends & locals. In 2018 they founded the winery in the village of Ariano Irpino, high in the Appenine mountains of Campania. They own just about 2 hectares and then farm an additional 2 hectares around their village with the locals. All is certified organic with some use of biodynamic preparations, only spontaneous fermentations, no temperature control and only slight additions of sulfur when necessary.

So needless to say I am super excited to share these wines with you! And as I said before- they fit a lot of different themes whether you’re having a BBQ, or looking for zero zero wines, or just want some insanely good fizz…or basically if you just want to #drinkgoodwine.

Cheers!
